Ex North Eastern Railway Class Q 4-4-0 No.1925, later LNER Class D17/2, on pilot duties near York, photographed circa 1930.
The NER Class Q locomotives were built at Gateshead in 1896–97 and were originally designed for express passenger work. In later years the class was increasingly used on secondary passenger and pilot duties.
